Product Description

Valve has announced the release of a handheld gaming console called Steam Deck. The Valve Steam Deck Handheld Gaming Console is an integrated gaming device that runs on the custom SteamOS system and has the ability to play all Steam games. The device has a design similar to other handheld gaming consoles such as Nintendo Switch and PlayStation Vita, with analog sticks on either side of the screen, a d-pad on the left side, and ABXY buttons on the right side.

The device features a 7-inch front-facing IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:10, with a maximum brightness of 400 nits, with touch support. The touch screen can be used to interact with the user interface as well as use the virtual keyboard on the screen. It can also be used within games by assigning specific commands to certain points on the screen. In addition, the company has placed four buttons on the handle at the back of the gaming console, two on each side. These buttons can be fully customized and assigned to any function within the game.

Processor and Performance of Valve Steam Deck Game Console

The Steam Deck has a custom AMD APU processor, with the CPU based on the Zen 2 architecture and containing 4 cores and 8 threads and a variable clock speed ranging from 2.4 to 3.5 GHz. The unit uses the latest RDNA2 graphics processor and contains 8 computational units. The APU also includes a power envelope ranging from 4-15 watts. As for storage, Valve offers three different levels, with the base version containing 64GB of eMMC storage, which is the slowest storage model. The mid-range version gets 256GB of NVMe SSD storage, which is the fastest, and the top version gets an NVMe SSD drive with a capacity of 512GB. Whether the user has any of the built-in storage types, they will be able to use microSD cards to increase their storage space.

The Steam Deck runs on a custom operating system from Valve called SteamOS 3.0. This system is based on the Arch Linux architecture and uses the Proton compatibility layer to run games designed for the Windows operating system. Valve claims that all of your games can be played on Steam Deck, not just games designed for Linux. Steam Deck includes a custom Steam store that allows you to access your own Steam library, browse and buy games through it, just like you do on your computer. Steam Deck also supports cloud game saving through the Steam Cloud service.

The Steam Deck is equipped with dual stereo speakers located below the trackpad, and Valve says they have a digital signal processor and a wide soundstage. Of course, you can use your own headphones if you prefer, and Steam Deck also includes two built-in microphones.

The Steam Deck supports dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0. It also has a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port that can be used for power, data, display, and audio. In addition, the port can be used as a regular USB-C port and connect all your accessories in addition to the desktop screen. This device can display up to 8K resolution at 60Hz or 4K at 120Hz through DisplayPort 1.4 Alt-mode. It can be said that Steam Deck has all the ports and connections that the user needs to smoothly and enjoyably play their games.

The Steam Deck features a 40-watt-hour battery, which can be used for up to 8 hours in light use or basic 2D games. However, battery life can drop to 2 hours while playing 3D games. The package comes with a 45-watt USB-C PD charger.
